NYC Cornellians & Cornell Club of Rockland County: Cornell Cooperative Extension of NYC Aquaponics Lab Tour

  • 525 West 50th Street New York, NY, 10019 United States (map)

Please join the Cornell Clubs of Rockland County and NYC Cornellians on a fascinating walking tour of the Aquaponics Learning Lab and Greenhouse in the Food and Finance High School. The 90-minute tour is a collaborative effort between the high school and two Cornell regional clubs. We will learn about the latest in science technology, sustainability and urban food production by youth in New York City!

Our tour will be led by Philson A.A. Warner, founder and director of the lab. Mr. Warner is an Extension Associate with CUCE-NYC and Cornell’s College of Human Ecology. He is a member of CCE’s 4-H Science, Technology Engineering and Math Committee (STEM) and author of many articles on this unique and innovative program.

Cooperative Extension of New York City (CUCE-NYC) students take the lead in annually raising 60,000 pounds of fish, herbs and vegetables indoors through a unique re-circulating system. The fish and plants are used in the school’s culinary arts program as part of an effort to make cafeteria food healthier, at school/student-catered events, donated to hunger relief organizations, distributed at greenmarkets, and sold to local business establishments.
